Hi Everyone! I previously blogged about why what you say that you want doesn’t always show up in your life. The reason is Limiting Beliefs, sometimes called Gremlins, “The Committee” or by a variety of other names. In today’s post, I will take about what these are and how to identify them in your life.
The reason is Limiting Beliefs, sometimes called Gremlins, “The Committee” or by a variety of other names.
In today’s post, I will talk about what these are and how to identify them in your life.
I am sure you are joyful and excited whenever you think of your ideal business being a success. Maybe it is your perfect body, relationship or something else. You may feel that pleasant sense of exhaustion you feel when completing a task. You may be able to see yourself the day of your grand opening or framing your first dollar earned. Maybe it is your wedding day or stepping on the scale and seeing “your” number. If the majority of your thoughts are positive and accomplished, then you are quite close to manifesting your desires into your reality. However, if more of your thoughts are pondering the impossibility of the situation, the amount of work it will be, whether or not you will find the right employees or customers, partner or diet, then limiting beliefs may hinder you from creating your reality. Knowing this is not intended to bring you down further, rather it is intended to help you know that by clearing these beliefs the majority of your thoughts will be positive and your desires will manifest.
These beliefs may have come from your childhood or a traumatic even in your adult life and can either be conscious or subconscious.
Now let me show you why these beliefs will keep you from having what you want in life and how to eliminate them.
Limiting Beliefs Cause Difference
When you are not confident that you can have your ideal business, relationship or body, you are never going to manifest your desires into your reality. This is a major issue when people try to use the Law of Attraction to attract whatever they want into their lives without fully understanding it.
There are many reasons for limiting beliefs. Some of the things that we believe are facts might just turn out to be beliefs. An extreme example is Christopher Columbus thinking that the world was flat. An instance in your business may be the “fact” that all business rental space is above your budget, not because you checked but because others told you so. Maybe it is that there are no good women or men out there. If you believe something long enough to be true, it becomes your reality. These ingrained beliefs may be hard to get rid of but it is quite possible to remove them. Even the thought that they are hard to get rid of it a limiting belief!
Beliefs like, “I don’t think I have the skills to be a consultant, although I have 20 years of experience in the field,” or “I might get embarrassed if my dad sees that I am not making money,” or “I just might screw things up,” are examples of limiting beliefs. To quote Henry Ford, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, either way you are right.”
How to Get Rid of Limiting Beliefs
I have many tools in my toolkit for this. The one I use most commonly is Emotional Freedom Technique. Emotional Freedom Tapping or EFT does a great job in getting rid of unwanted and negative emotions.
This technique is commonly used by people who want to get rid of limiting beliefs so that they are able to manifest their desires freely.
Here is the tapping sequence and a demonstration.
Think of some issue that is troubling you and give it a simple name (fear of taking action) – this will be your Reminder Phrase. Rate your discomfort on a scale of 0-10 so that you can monitor your progress with each issue.
1. The Setup: While continuously tapping the Karate Chop point, repeat this affirmation three times: “Even though I have this ____ (fear of taking action.), I deeply and completely accept myself.”
2. The Sequence: Tap between 5 and 10 times on each of the following energy points while repeating the Reminder Phrase at each point:
Crown: “This stress (or whatever the issue may be).”
Eyebrow: “Fear of taking action.”
Side of eye: “Fear of taking action..”
Under eye: “Fear of taking action.”
Under nose: “Fear of taking action.”
Chin: “Fear of taking action.”
Collarbone:”Fear of taking action.”
Under arm: “Fear of taking action.”
3. Take a deep cleansing breath.
Now, check in with your body, and see if there is any remaining discomfort around fear of taking action—then rate that again on a scale of 0-10. Repeat this process until significant relief is gained – preferably bringing the discomfort down to a zero. It is very likely that you may feel clear about the specific issue you were focusing on, but it may have brought up another issue. Let’s day you no longer feel fear about starting your business or attending a singles event, however the new fear is choosing the right business or event to attend. After all, you are busy and don’t want to waste time and emotional energy. In subsequent rounds the Setup affirmation and the Reminder Phrase reflect the new wording, if appropriate, or to reflect that you are addressing the remaining problem: “Even tough I still have this ______ (issue).”
This is the first step in EFT. There are many other variations I use to provide my clients with enhanced results. One of the services I provide to my clients is customized tapping scripts.
